Smith Volleyball Beats Mount Holyoke for NEWMAC Victory

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers defeated NEWMAC, and valley rival, Mount Holyoke College 3-0 with scores of 30-22, 30-16, and 30-26. The win raised Smith's record to 5-7 overall and 1-3 in the NEWMAC. Mount Holyoke now stands at 2-5 on the season and 0-4 in conference.

Smith was led by Catherine Shafer '08 (Red Bluff, CA) who compiled 19 digs, 14 kills, 1 solo block, and 1 ace on the night. Mikal Minarcih '10 (Hobart, IN) also turned in an excellent performance for the Pioneers with 15 assists, 6 digs, 2 kills, and 1 solo block.

Kathryne Schwartz '09 (Ridgewood, NJ) and Maxime Summit '10 (Sao Paolo, Brazil) had standout defensive performances for Mount Holyoke, in a match that featured a solid team effort by the Lions. Rosa Marroffo '11 (Tulsa, OK) led Mount Holyoke from the service line.

Smith returns to action Tuesday, October 2 at Babson for a 7 p.m start.
