Smith Loses Close Match to Springfield 3-2
Northampton, MA: Despite a strong effort by the Pioneers, highlighted by a 2 game jumpstart on the night, Springfield was able to crawl back into the match taking the win 15-9 in the fifth game. Smith drops to 2-5 with the loss, while Springfield improves to 7-3 on the season.
Leading the Pioneers was Catherine Shafer '08 (Red Bluff, CA) with 12 kills and 21 digs on the night, Mikal Minarich '10 (Hobart, IN) tallying 14 kills and 13 digs, and Laurel Belton '11 (San Bernadino, CA) with 21 assists, 14 digs, and 7 kills. For Springfield College Bethany Stosz '11 (Amherst, MA) led the match in kills with 19, while her teammate Jessica Baldwin '09 (Fairport, NY) finished with 24 digs.
Smith will be back in action this weekend at the MIT Invitational as they take on Williams College Friday night.
