Smith Volleyball Falls to Coast Guard Academy

Northampton, MA: The Smith Pioneers fell to 2-4 on the season, losing a NEWMAC contest 3-0 at the Coast Guard Academy.

Despite a great defensive effort by senior co-captain Katie Shafer (Red Bluff, CA), Smith fell to the Coast Guard in three straight games, dropping their NEWMAC record to 0-2. The Coast Guard Academy raised its overall record to 4-2 and improved to 2-0 in the NEWMAC.

Shafer led the Pioneers with 7 kills and 15 digs. Also contributing heavily on defense was sophomore Mikal Minarich (Hobart, IN), who finished with 6 kills and 6 digs.

  Smith will return to action at home Tuesday versus NEWMAC opponent Springfield College.
