Smith Track & Field Athletes Place in Smith Winter Classic

Northampton, MA: Smith track & field athletes had good individual performances today in the non-team scoring Smith Winter Classic Invitational. Jasmine Liverpool (Brooklyn, NY) won the 600m (1:46.14), finished 4th in the triple jump (9.85m), 5th in the long jump (4.84m) and was a member of the 4x400m relay team that finished second (4:28.69).

Sophomore Etta Grover-Silva (Arcata, CA)  placed fourth in the 55m dash (8.04), second in the pole vault (4.94m), and was a member of the third place finishing 4x200m relay team (1:55.07).  Junior Claire Edwards (Klamath Falls, OR) finished second in the long jump (4.94m), second in the 200m (28.03), and was a member of the 4x200m relay. Alina Ainyette (South Orange, NJ) placed third in the 400m (1:04.58), and was the fourth leg of the 4x200m relay team and first leg of the 4x400m relay. First year Chelsea Andrews (Bangor, ME) finished fifth in the triple jump (9.78m), 13th in the high jump (4'4) and was the final leg of the 4x400m relay. First year Catherine McGuinness (Fairfax, VT) placed third in the shot put (10.10m) while Sarah Perkins (Atlanta, GA) finished 9th (8.96m). Junior Jenna Christie (Groton, CT) placed 7th in the long jump (4.66m), ran the 4x200m relay and finished 11th in the 200m dash (30.65). Jessie Katz (Belle Harbor, NY) Adrienne Purdy (Drexel Hill, PA), and Elizabeth Dernbach (Naples, FL) each had top ten finishes. Katz was 9th in the 200m dash (30.32),  Purdy 7th in the 3000m run (12:08.53), and Dernbach 7th in the 600m (1:57.58).

The Pioneers compete again on January 19 when they travel to Brandeis for the Brandeis Invitational at noon.
