Grover-Silva Takes New England Pole Vault Title

Northampton, MA: Sophomore Etta Grover-Silva (Arcata, CA) became the New England pole vault champion with a jump of 3.75m at the Open New England Track & Field Championships held yesterday and today at the University of New Hampshire.

Her jump is a personal best and places her in the top six in the national rankings. Other athletes who qualified for this meet were Claire Edwards (Klamath Falls, OR) who finished 19th in the long jump (4.81m), 20th in the 100m (13.02) and set a personal best mark in the 200m with her 27th place finish in 26.73.  Sophomore Jasmine Liverpool (Brooklyn, NY) was 19th in the triple jump (9.96m) while first year Uzuri Sims (San Diego, CA) finished 20th in the 400IH in a time of 1:09.18, a personal best.  All four women combined to race the 4x100m relay and placed 13th in 50.83. Competitors from Division I, II and III institutions competed in the meet with Smith placing 21st out of 32 schools. All four women have qualified for the ECAC Championship that will be held next weekend at Springfield College.
