Track & Field Participates in ECSU Invitational
Northampton, MA: Smith Track & Field travelled to Mansfield, CT to participate in the Eastern Connecticut State University Invitational Tournament toady. The three school meet included Smith, ECSU, and Colby-Sawyer.
Claire Edwards '09 (Klamath Falls, OR), Etta Grover Silva '10 (Arcata, CA), and Catherine McGuinness '11 (Fairfax, VT) all placed first in their respective events today. Edwards took first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.7 seconds, as well as the long jump with a distance of 17 feet 2.75 inches. Both performances qualified Edwards for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament. With a height of 11 feet 5.75 inches, Grover-Silva placed first in the pole vault. In the hammer throw, McGuinness placed first with a throw of 38.50m--a personal best. In addition, McGuinness placed second in the shot put with a distance of 9.93 meters.
Jasmime Liverpool '10 (Brooklyn, NY) also qualified for ECACs with her second-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 10.32 meters. Uzuri Sims '11 (San Diego, CA) placed second in the 400 meter hurdle with a time of 1:13.69. Firs-year Elizabeth Isenstein '11 (Deerfield, MA) took third in the javelin throw with a distance of 29.10 meters.
Track and field will compete at the Bowdoin Aloha Relays on Saturday, April 19 at 11 am.
