Smith Track & Field Places 4th in Tartan Invitational
Northampton, MA: Smith College hosted the Tartan Invitational this afternoon, featuring 18 women's teams and 13 men's teams. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institution took first place in both the men's and women's competitions. On the women's side, Amherst finished second, Keene State third, Smith fourth, and Union fifth. On the men's side, the College of Saint Rose finished second, followed by Westfield State, American International College, and Union. The Pioneers received several strong performances throughout the day. Claire Edwards (Klamath Falls, OR) took first place in the 55 m dash with a time of 7.70. In addition, she took third place in the 200 m dash with a time of 27.69 as well as a seventh place finish in the long jump with a distance of 4.62 meters. In addition to individual events, Edwards was part of the 4 x 200 relay which took first place with a time of 1:51:02. Jasmine Liverpool (Brooklyn, NY), Alina Ainyette (South Orange, NJ), and Etta Gover-Silva (Arcata, CA) comprised the other three legs of the relay. Grover-Silva also took first place in the pole vault event with 3.30 meters. She also took eighth place in the 55 m dash with a time of 8:04.
Smith also scored points in the 4 x 400 relay, with a sixth place finish. The relay team was comprised of Liverpool, Bryce Bludevich (Colchester, VT), Mary Kate Long (Boylston, MA), and Ainyette. Their time for the 4 x 400 was 4:34:13.
In addition to her role on the relay teams, Liverpool also was successful in her individual events. She took second place in the 400 m run with a time of 1:03:76. Additionally, she took third place in the triple jump (10.13 meters) and sixth place in the long jump with a distance of 4.65 meters.
Also scoring points for the Pioneers was Adrienne Purdy (Drexel Hill, PA) with an eighth place finish in the 1 mile event with a time of 5:53:77 and a seventh place finish in the 5000 m by Allison Cloutier (East Hampton, CT) with a time of 19:45:83.
Smith is back in action Saturday February 16th as they travel to the MIT invitational.
