Track and Field Places 3rd at USM Invitational

Northampton, MA: Smith Track and Field finished in third-place out of eight teams participating at the University of Southern Maine Invitational on Saturday, February 2nd. With a total of 61 points the Pioneers finished behind second-place Bates College (190.50 points) and first-place Southern Maine (194.50 points).

Jasmine Liverpool '10 (Brooklyn, NY) and Etta Grover-Silva '10 (Arcata, CA) both earned first-place finishes in thier respective events. In the 600 Meter Run Liverpool outran all competitors with a time of 1:46.79, while Grover-Silva eanrned the Pioneers 10 points clearing 11ft 3in on the Pole Vault. 

Smith finished high enough in ten other events to earn the Pioneers points to contribute to the third-place finish: 

55 Meter Dash: Claire Edwards '09 (Klamath Falls, OR)-- 4th (7.90) 
200 Meter Dash: Edwards--5th (28.45)
400 Meter Dash: Alina Ainyette '09 (South Orange, NJ)--5th (1:06.13)
3000 Meter Run: Alison Cloutier '08 (East Hampton, CT)--7th (11:18.02)
4x200 Meter Relay: Edwards, Ainyette, Grover-Silva, Liverpool--2nd (1:54.59)
4x400 Meter Relay: Ainyette, Bryce Bludevich '11 (Colchester, VT), Liverpool, Mary Kate Long '10 (Boylston, MA)--3rd (4:32.62)
High Jump: Chelsea Andrews '11 (Bangor, ME)--8th (4ft 7.25in)
Long Jump: Edwards--7th (15ft 7.5in)
Triple Jump: Andrews--5th (31ft 9.75in)
Shot Put: Catherine McGuinness '11 (Fairfax, VT)--5th (32ft 11.75in)

Smith will be back in action Saturday, February 9th as they host the Smith Tartan Invitational at 10 am.
