Tennis Bows Out of NEWMAC Championship
Northampton, MA: Smith tennis fell 5-1 to Wheaton College today in the quarterfinals of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tennis Championship and ended the fall season with an overall record of 4-4.
The team of Catherine Hill-Lydecker (Conway, NH) and Alanna Dick (Winthrop, ME) were the lone winners from Smith at number two doubles. Diana Fiumefreddo (Winchester, VA) and Miyu Kikuchi (Tokyo, Japan) fell 4-8 at number one doubles to Catherine Teague and Sarah Geocaris while Seiko Fujii (Aichi, Japan) and Tina Jackson (Payson, AZ) dropped their third doubles match 2-8 to Elly Van Faasen and Chelsea Cordes.
In singles play, Fiumefreddo in the two slot fell to Geocaris, 2-6,2-6; Fujii at three singles dropped her match 2-6,0-6 to Katie Kneis and Nikki Anderson (Sherborn, MA) fell 4-6, 0-6 to Maya Milic-Strkalj at 5 singles. Due to the move indoors because of rain, the remaining singles were not completed once the match had been determined.
