Tennis Competes in NEWITT
Northampton, MA: The Smith tennis team has completed day one of the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) with singles players Seiko Fujii (Aichi, Japan), Catherine Hill-Lydecker (Conway, NH), Nikki Anderson (Sherborn, MA) and Alanna Dick (Winthrop, ME)advancing into day two.
Fujii at third singles defeated Joanna Nettlefield of Roger Williams 6-3, 6-1, Hill-Lydecker drew a bye at four singles, Anderson defeated Haley McCraven of Roger Williams (7-5, 6-1) and Dick drew a bye at six singles.
Miyu Kikuchi (Tokyo, Japan) at number one singles fell 2-6, 1-6 to Brenna Driscoll of Trinity and Diana Fiumefreddo (Winchester, VA) dropped her matches at second singles 1-6, 0-6 to Brett Davis of Bowdoin.
The three doubles teams have all bowed out of the competition with first doubles, Kikuchi/Fiumefreddo falling 1-8 to Driscoll & Williams of Trinity; Hill-Lydecker/Dick losing a tight 8-9 (2) match to Berkman/Hanson of Middlebury at second doubles and Fujii/Tina Jackson (Payson, AZ) dropping their match 5-8 to Preneta/Collector of Wesleyan.
