Smith Swimming and Diving Squad Dominates Diving Events at Tri Meet

Northampton, MA: In a tri-meet featuring teams from MIT and Wheaton, the Pioneers divers Shanti Freitas (Evanston, IL) and Alexis Roehrich (Eau Claire, WI) took 1st and 2nd place respectively of both the 1 and 3 meter diving events. Freitas qualified for NCAA Nationals with her score of 259.95 for the 1 meter event and 281.20 for the 3 meter. Roehrich's scores were 217.75 and 210.25 for the events. The Smith squad lost to both MIT and Wheaton by the following scores: MIT 205.50 - Smith 92.50; Wheaton 196 - Smith 102. Wheaton also defeated MIT with a final score of 151-148. The loss drops Smith's overall record to 3-2.

In the swimming events, Smith took two first place finishes. Lily Seidman (Westfield, IN) took first place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:59:99. In addition, she finished in third place of the 100 freestyle with a time of 55:10.

Marly Pineda (Bosque Farm, NM) took first place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:14:60. She finished with two second place events, the 400 IM with a time of 4:48:56 and the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:03:47.

The Smith 400 freestyle relay team, comprised of Francesca Kotey (Gainesville, FL), Rachel Dorset (Stratford, CT), Seidman, and Pineda took 5th place with a time of 3:50:98.

The Pioneers return to action the 19th as they travel to Wellesley for a 1 p.m start.
