Smith Swimming and Diving Defeats Westfield State 157-137

Northampton, MA: Marly Pineda'08 (Bosque Farms, NM) led Smith swimming and diving with three first place finishes in a 157-137 defeat over Westfield State this afternoon.

Pineda finished first in 1000 yard freestyle (11:20.67), the 200 yard butterfly (2:17.82), and the 500 yard freestyle (5:30.08).  Lily Seidman '11 (Westfield, IN), Reyna Levine '11 (Kalamazoo, MI), and Shanti Freitas '08 (Boston, MA) all took first place finishes in two events for the Pioneers.  Seidman took first in the 200 yard freestyle (2:01.28) and the 200 yard backstroke (2:15.83).  Levine  finished first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:17.31) and the 200 yard breaskstroke (2:46.78).  Freitas placed first in both the 1 meter (237.70) and 3 meter (245.45) diving events.  Also taking first place finishes for the Pioneers were Francesca Kotey '09 (Gainesville, FL) in the 50 yard freestyle (26.53) and Rachel Dorset '10 (Stratford, CT) in the 100 yard butterfly (1:05.62).  Smith finished out the meet by taking first in the 400 yard freestyle relay (3:51.08).  The team included: Kotey, Faith Latella '10 (Douglastown, NY), Pineda, and Seidman. 

Smith will be back in action Saturday, December 1st as they participate in the Pioneer Valley Invitational at 10 am.
