Swimming & Diving Team in Seventh Place Thourgh 13 Events of NEWMAC Championship
Northampton, MA: At the completion of day two and through 13 events of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Swimming & Diving Championship, the Pioneers stand in seventh place with 156 points. Sprinfield College holds first place with 470.5 points followed by MIT (460), Wheaton (442), Wellesley (329.5), Coast Guard (245), Babson (192), Smith (156), Clark (133), Mount Holyoke (114) and WPI (93).
The first event held today was the 200 medley relay where Wheaton College took first in 1:50.74. Christine Dzialo (Belchertown, MA), Reyna Levine (Kalamazoo, MI), Faith Latella (Douglastown NY) and Francesca Kotey (Gainesville, FL) finished in tenth place for Smith in 2:02.19. Levine also finished 13th in the 400IM in a time of 4:59.73 that was won by MIT's Nicole O'Keeffe in 4:38.15. First year Lily Seidman (Westfield, IN) placed 5th in the 100 fly in 1:00.07 with the winning time of 57.67 posted by Amy Jacobi of MIT. Lenora Walter '11 (Santa Ynez, CA) finished in 10th place (1:04.92) in the 100 back, won by Kellie Polle of Springfield 1:00.39. The Pioneers had two 800 free relay teams that finished 7th and 17th. Levine, Walter, Marly Pineda (Bosque Farms, NM) and Seidman placed 7th in 8:30.76 while Latella, Alison Yum (Fishers, IN), Abigail Carr (New York, NY) and Rachel Dorset (Stratford, CT) took 17th in 9:04.82. Springfield won the event in 7:49.25.
Competition resumes tomorrow with the finals of the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, 3 meter diving and 400 free relay beginning at 6:30 pm.
