Wellesley Swimming & Diving Defeats Smith 179-119; Freitas Scores Career High in Diving
Northampton, MA: Senior Shanti Freitas (Evanston, IL) won both the one (284.77 pts) and three-meter diving events today at Wellesley College bettering both of her NCAA National Championship qualifying scores and setting a career high on the 3-meter board. Her 305.48 points in the 3-meter event was the first time she has tallied over 300 points and broke the Smith record of 299.05 set in 1996 by Nicole Huber.
Senior Marly Pineda (Bosque Farms, NM) won both the 200 fly (2:14.26) and 500 freestyle (5:18.43) and placed second in the 1000 freestyle (11:05.38). First year Lily Seidman (Westfield, IN) took first in the 100 freestyle (55.27) and 100 fly (1:01.18) and second in the 200 IM (2:19.23) while classmate Christine Dzialo (Belchertown, MA) won the 200 back in 2:23.28. The 400 free relay team comprised of Francesca Kotey (Gainesville, FL), Dzialo, Pineda and Seidman placed second in 3:50.79.
The Pioneers will host the Seven Sisters Championship next Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 26-27 with events beginning at 10 am on Saturday.
