Smith Squash Defeated by Amherst 9-0

Northampton, MA: The Jeffs of Amherst easily defeated the Pioneers this evening 9-0. The loss dropped Smith's overall record to 0-8. Amherst now stands at 4-2 on the season.

While Smith fell without winning a match, there were two matches that featured extremely competitive battles. The number one match, featuring Smith's Kate Whiteshell (Easton, MD) and Amherst's Allie Dalgish (Lawrenceville, PA) finished with a very close 9-7 third game which required two straight points to break a 7-7 tie.

Additionally, the closest fought match of the evening was between Hannah Merves (Merion, PA) of Amherst and Smith's Julia Voorhees (Bedford, NH). While Merves took the match (3-1), Voorhees took an early 1-0 game lead, the only game won by Smith on the evening.

Smith returns to action following the winter break as they will compete January 25-27 in the Smith/Mount Holyoke Invitational.
