Smith Squash Drops Two in Opening Matches of Smith/Mount Holyoke Invitational
Northampton, MA: In the first day of play at the Smith/Mount Holyoke Invitational Squash Tournament Smith took losses from Colgate University and Colby College. With the two matches Smith drops to 0-10 on the season.
In the first match of the evening Colgate squeezed by Smith 5-4. Winning for Smith were Kate Whitesell '08(Easton,MD) dominating at the #1 spot, #6 Meg Oliverio '11 (Boston, MA) with a come-from-behind victory taking her last three games, #7 Kelsey Radwilowicz '10 (Belchertown, MA), #9 Elizabeth Hughes '09 (Barneveld, NY), and #10 Andrea Shang '10 (Hong Kong, China). At #2 Sara Smyth '08 (Brooklyn, NY) played a great match, but lost the tightest battled of the night in five games dropping the last game 10-8.
In the second match of the night Colby College, ranked 12th by the College Squash Association, beat Smith handley 10-0. Rachael Courrington '10 (Auckland, NZ) took one game for Smith at the #10 spot 9-0.
The Smith College/Mount Holyoke Invitational will continue play tomorrow Saturday, January 26th as Wesleyan takes on Connecticut College at 11 am with Smith vs. Connecticut College to follow at 12:30 pm.
