Softball Falls to Clark in NEWMAC Tournament

Northampton, MA: In game five of the New England Women's and Men's Softball Tournament, Smith lost to Clark University 1-3 to end the 2008 season.

Clark took a 3-0 lead by the third inning leaving the Pioneers scoreless until Taryn Pestalozzi '08 (Troutdale, OR) led off the fifth for Smith with a double to leftcenter and scored on Emily Hiltzik's '09 (Westbury, NY) single to make the score 3-1 in Clark's favor. However, the Pioneers were unable to get anything going offensively in the sixth or seventh inning as Clark went on to take the win and advance in the NEWMAC Tournament.

Finishing her career for the Pioneers, Dezarai Fisher '08 (Phoenix, AZ) struck out four batters in five innings. Hiltzik would finish out the game for Smith facing nine batters and striking out one.
