Softball Splits Pair of Games

Northampton, MA: On Friday, in their final day of games at the Rebel Games, the Pioneers defeated Loras College 2-1 in 8 innings before dropping their final game to Millikan College 6-4. The Pioneers now stand at 4-6 on the year.

Against Loras, Dee Fisher (Phoenix, AZ) started the game going 5 innings giving up only one run, but did not factor in the decision. Emily Hiltzik (Westbury, NY) threw the final 3 frames, holding Loras scoreless for the win. Offensively, Megan Kiefer (Oak Park, IL) led the Pioneers going 2-4 with a triple and the game winning single in the bottom of the 8th. Crystal Fryer (Louisville, KY), who had started the inning at second base as part of the international tiebreaker, scored the game winning run for the Pioneers.

Against Millikan, Fisher took the loss giving up 4 runs over 6 innings of work. Hiltizik gave up 2 runs in one inning of relief. Offensively, Kate Schoenen (Ellicott City, MD) had a strong day at the plate for the Pioneers, going 2-4 with a double and a triple in a losing effort.

Smith returns to action Tuesday as they travel to Trinity for a single game beginning at 4 pm.
