Smith Softball Drops Two At Rebel Games
Northampton, MA: In their third day at the Rebel Games, the Pioneers dropped two games to opponents St.Benedict and Polytechnic. With the losses, Smith dropped its record on the season to 3-3. In the first game, the Pioneers fell to St.Benedict by a score of 2-1. Emily Hiltzik picked up the loss in the tightly contested match. Jessie Paull had the Pioneer's lone RBI, while Megan Kiefer went 2-3 with a run scored. In the second game, the Pioneers were hurt by their defense that committed 4 errors which led to all 4 of Polytechnic's runs en route to a 4-3 defeat. In the circle, Hiltzik picked up the loss, entering the game in the 7th she gave up one unearned run on one hit and one strike out. The Pioneers were able to get runners into scoring position in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to get any runs across. Offensively, Smith was led by Crystal Fryer who went 1-1 with an RBI double, Erin Quinn who went 1-2 with two runs scored, and Marisa Kritikson who went 1-2 with an RBI. The Pioneers return to action Wednesday as they take on Montclair State and Carthage.
