Smith Soccer Defeats Clark in OT, 2-1

Northampton, MA: Senior Janine Olthuis (Cavan, Ontario)headed the ball into the goal off a corner kick by classmate Caitlyn Colman-McGaw (Manchester, CT) in the 95th minute to secure the 2-1 victory over New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Clark University this afternoon. With the win, the Pioneers improved to 5-7-1 and 4-3 in the conference while the Cougars fell to 6-7-2 on the season and 3-4 in NEWMAC competition.

In an evenly played contest, it was the Pioneers who scored the first goal at 7:59 when sophomore Valerie Driscoll (Keene, NH) got past the last defender to go one-on-one with Cougar keeper Joanna Clark (Windham, ME).  Liz Adamcik (Florence, MA) tied the game for Clark at 18:44 as she sailed a shot over Smith keeper Lauren Bachtel (Dublin, OH).  Both teams had scoring opportunities in the remainder of regulation but neither could convert a goal. Bachtel made 6 saves in her first win of the year while Clark made 4 stops in the loss.

The Pioneers will host MIT on Saturday at 1 pm while Clark travels to Babson for a 1 pm game.
