Smith Soccer Falls to Babson 1-3

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers fell to NEWMAC opponent Babson College 1-3 this afternoon at Smith.

Babson was able to strike early as Kayla Pomponi '10 (Belmont, MA) was able to finish a cross from teammate Shir Castel '09 (Boston, MA) only 7:49 into the match.  Smith was able to tie the game and keep it 1-1 at the half when Valerie Driscoll '10 (Keene, NH) took control of a long punt from Marlowe Dieckmann '09 (Oakland, CA) and found Dalyn Houser '10 (Atlanta, GA) who was able to walk the ball into the Babson net at 29:01.  Babson was able to score again only 3 minutes into the second half as Castel beat Dieckmann low and right with a shot from inside the box (3:48).  At the 54:32 mark Pomponi scored her second goal of the game giving Babson some breathing room to hold onto the win. 

Dieckmann made 7 saves on the match while allowing 3 goals.  Elizabeth Isenstein '11 (Deerfield, MA) made her first collegiate appearance in net  and tallied 1 save for the Pioneers.  Sam Scarpato '10 (Weston, MA) of Babson made 0 saves and allowed 1 goal, while her teammate Kristy Benoit '11 (Shrewsbury, MA) made 1 stop in the match. 

Smith will be back in action Tuesday, October 2nd at Coast Guard.
