Soccer Falls to Brandeis, 3-1

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers took a 1-1 tie into the half but the Judges of Brandeis scored a pair of second half goals to defeat Smith 3-1 last night in Waltham, MA. With the victory, Brandeis improved to 6-1-1 while Smith fell to 1-5-1.

In the 16th minute of the game, senior Sarah Jasak (Middletown, NJ) passed the ball to Tzlil Castle (Boston, MA) who went one-on-one with Smith keeper Marlowe Dieckmann (Oakland, CA) and registered the first goal for Brandeis. The Pioneers tied the game in the 29th minute when Julianna Rose (Seattle, WA) chipped the ball over the Judge's defense and found sophomore Dalyn Houser (Atlanta, GA). Houser beat one defender and tallied her second goal of the season to give the Pioneers a 1-1 tie at the half.

The Judges scored the game winning goal in the 68th minute as Jasak registered her second assist of the game when she found Lindsay Deslauriers (Port of Spain, Trinidad) who converted a shot from the twenty-yard line.  Brandeis put their third goal of the game on the board ten minutes later on an own goal. Hilary Rosenzweig picked up her sixth win of the year in goal for Brandeis while Dieckmann, who faced 15 shots on goal, made 12 saves for Smith in the loss.

The Pioneers will resume New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competition on Saturday when they host Babson College at noon.
