Smith Soccer Falls 3-0 to Wheaton

Northampton, MA: In their first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game of the 2007 season, the Pioneers fell to Wheaton College 3-0. With the win, the Lyons improved to 8-0-1 overall while Smith dropped to 1-4-1.

The Lyons offense dominated most of the game and put their first of three goals on the board at the 13:20 mark on a direct kick by sophomore Lyndsey McManus (Marshfield, MA) following a Smith foul.  At 39:26 senior Lauren Konopka (Medford, NJ) passed the ball to classmate Jenna Rabesa (Teaticket, MA) who drilled a shot that went through the hands of Smith's keeper that gave the Lyons a 2-0 lead at the half.  The Lyons final goal was scored by Angelamaria Viscomi (Newton, MA) at 47:39 on a penalty kick. Goalkeeper Elana Cockburn (Chestnut Hill, MA) tallied the win for Wheaton and made one save.  Sophomore Marlowe Dieckmann (Oakland, CA) took the loss for Smith and made six saves.

The Pioneers will travel to Brandeis University on Wednesday, September 26 for a 7 p.m. contest before returning home to host NEWMAC rival Babson on Saturday, September 29 at noon.
