Smith Drops Home Opener to Keene State 2-0

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers fell to 0-3 on the season as the Owls of Keene State scored two goals in the second half improving their record to 4-2 on the season.

The Pioneers defense fought hard in the first half holding the Owls scoreless, but 25 minutes into the second half first-year Katie Bradford (Lebanon, NH)  tracked down a ball in the box and was able to beat the Smith  keeper putting Keene State up 1-0.  Five minutes later Bradford scored her second goal of the game at 75:26 with the assist from Kendra Spencer '10 (Petoskey, MI) to secure the victory for the Owls.  Bradford recieved the ball from Spencer on the right side of the box and found the back left corner of the net.

Smith keeper Lauren Bachtel '09 (Dublin, OH) started in goal, but was sidelined at the 13:28 mark after she stepped off her line to save a potential goal and collided with the Keene State forward.  Bachtel tallied 2 saves while Marlowe Dieckmann '09 (Oakland, CA) made 9 saves in the loss for the Pioneers.

Smith will travel to Skidmore College on Saturday September 15th for a 1 pm contest.
