Soccer Falls to Plattsburgh State 3-1

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers were defeated by host Plattsburgh State 3-1 this afternoon in the 2007 Cardinal Classic. With the loss, the Pioneers fell to 0-2 while Plattsburgh improved to 4-0.

Smith sophomore Valerie Driscoll (Keene, NH) scored the first goal of the game at the 29:28 mark. Senior tri-captain Caitlyn Colman-McGaw (Manchester, CT) took a corner kick and found sophomore Dalyn Houser (Atlanta, GA) who headed the ball down to Driscoll's feet and she back-heeled it into the goal.

Plattsburgh's Elizabeth Radigan (Troy, NY) tied the game up six minutes later on an assist from Kelly Hopkins (Londonderry, NH) and then scored what proved to be the game winner with three minutes left in the half assisted by Kristen Lavigne (Morrisonville, NY).  First year Helen Giroux (Chazy, NY) scored an insurance goal for the Cardinals in the second half with an assist from Radigan with three minutes remaining.  Sophomore keepers Lauren Bachtel (Dublin, OH) and Marlowe Dieckmann (Oakland, CA) each played a half for Smith.  Bachtel took the loss for the Pioneers and made five saves in the first half while Dieckmann stopped two shots. Kathryn Lind (Garden City, NJ) registered the win for Plattsburgh and made two stops in 90 minutes of play.

The Pioneers will host Keene State on Wednesday, September 12 at 4:30 p.m.
