Smith Soccer Loses Season Opener to St. Lawrence

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers fell to the Saints of St. Lawrence 1-0 this afternoon in their season opener at the Plattsburgh State University Cardinal Classic.

Sophomore forward Lauren Annaldo (Hampton, NH) scored the game winner at the 41:58 mark in the first half with an assist by classmate Susan Garnett (Darien, CT).  The Pioneers struggled offensively as the Saints outshot Smith 20-3 en route to their third win of the season.  Junior keeper Lauren Bachtel (Dublin, OH) made ten saves for the Pioneers in the loss while Hayleigh Hochberg (Croton, NY) made one in the victory for St. Lawrence.  Smith will face host Plattsburgh tomorrow at 2 p.m.
