Coach Nielsen Resigns as Soccer Coach

Northampton, MA: Smith College is losing its head soccer coach Phil Nielsen, who compiled a 71-59-15 record in eight seasons. Phil leaves Smith at the end of June and has decided to pursue other opportunities.

Athletic Director Lynn Oberbillig acknowledges Phil as one of the best soccer recruiters Smith has ever had: "I see the success of Phil's athletes as a testament of his recruiting abilities and his ability to develop talent and leadership from within.  He consistently brought in a talented and diverse class of student-athletes to Smith.  Please join me in wishing Phil the best of luck in all his future career endeavors."  The Department will begin a search for a new head coach immediately.
