Lacrosse Defeats UMass-Dartmouth

Northampton, MA: Senior Sara Smyth (Brooklyn, NY) and first year Caitlin Kennedy (South Hadley, MA) combined for nine of the Pioneers 13 goals to en route to Smith's 13-9 defeat of non-conference opponent UMass-Dartmouth. With the victory, the Pioneers improved to 5-8 overall while the Corsairs dropped to 6-4.

UMass-Dartmouth opened the first half outscoring the visitors 3-1 in the opening ten minutes of play, but Smith's offense and defense took over at that point. The Pioneers attack rattled off eight goals led by Kennedy who tallied three while the defense held the home team to two goals to give Smith a 9-5 advantage at the half.

Dartmouth closed the gap in the second half as it went on a 4-1 run to close within in (10-9) but Smith's Smyth scored at the fifteen and 9 minute marks and Kennedy with one minute remaining to give the Pioneers the 13-9 victory.

Senior keeper Sara Smith (Brooklyn, NY) stopped 12 shots and allowed the nine goals to pick up her fifth win of the season while Erin Doherty made 14 saves in the loss for Dartmouth.

The Pioneers play their last regular season contest on Saturday at 1 pm when they travel to NEWMAC rival Springfield College.
