Lacrosse Falls at Keene State 9-7

Northampton, MA: Senior Sara Smyth (Brooklyn, NY) scored a team high four goals for the Pioneers but the Owls of Keene State recorded the 9-7 come-from-behind victory. With the loss, Smith fell to 4-7 while Keene State improved to 9-4.

First year Jill Kirk (Port Jefferson Station, NY) gave the home team a 1-0 lead 6 minutes into the game but Smyth scored a hat trick over the next four minutes to put the Pioneers ahead  3-1.  Kirk answered with another goal for the Owls at the 11:28 mark to bring them within one. Over the next seven minutes, Smith's Caitlyn Kennedy (South Hadley, MA) rattled off two goals to give the Pioneers a 5-2 advantage.  Keene scored again at 24:12 but with 35 seconds left in the first half, Smyth scored her fourth goal of the half to give Smith a 6-3 lead going into the break.

Keene's offense came alive in the second thirty minutes as the Owls scored three goals in a minute and a half to tie the game and took the lead on Kirk's fourth goal of the game at 18:32. The Owl's defense stepped up play and held the Pioneers to just one goal to claim the 9-7 victory.
