Lacrosse Falls to MIT 7-18

Northampton, MA: In a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match-up, MIT defeated Smith 7-18 this afternoon in Cambridge, MA. With the loss Smith drops to 3-6 overall (0-3 NEWMAC), while MIT improves to 2-6 (1-2 NEWMAC).

Smith College first-year, Caitlyn Kennedy (South Hadley, MA), led the Pioneers in scoring with four goals on the game. Kennedy put Smith on the board with her first goal with 14:29 remaining in the first-half. Less than two minutes later, Emily Riff '08 (Wayzata, MN) scored the second goal for the Pioneers off an assist from Sara Smyth '08 (Brooklyn , NY).

Smith opened the second-half with two goals within thirty seconds of each other. Kennedy scored her second goal with 25:33 reamining in the game followed quickly by Smyth's goal at 25:02. Michelle Walsh '10 (Northampton, MA) gave Smith its fifth goal of the game at 18:02. Kennedy scored Smith's last two goals at 11:07, assisted by Smyth, and 3:08 off an assist by Carolyn Whiting '10 (South Orange, NJ).

Smith goalkeeper, Sara Smith '08 (Brooklyn, NY), faced twenty-nine shots with eleven saves on the game.

The Pioneers will host NEWMAC rival, Mount Holyoke, on Tuesday, April 15 at 5 pm.
