Lacrosse Defeats St. Joseph's 16-1

Northampton, MA: Caitlin Kennedy (South Hadley, MA), Carolyn Whiting (South Orange, NJ) and Blair Rapalyea (Prides Crossing, MA) each scored three goals yesterday en route to the Pioneers 16-1 defeat of St. Joseph College. With the victory, Smith improved to 2-4 overall while St. Joseph fell to 1-3.

The Pioneers took an 8-0 lead into the half and Smith's offense continued to dominate the remainder of the contest as it outshot St. Joseph 41-6 for the game. Rounding out the scoring for Smith were first year Eve Whitehouse (North Reading, MA) and senior Emily Riff (Wayzata, MN) with two goals apiece and Sara Smyth (Brooklyn, NY), Michelle Walsh (Northampton, MA) and Alayna Liptak (Leeds, MA) with a goal each. Smyth picked up four assists, Kennedy two and Danielle Schmandt (Austin, TX) one.  Goalkeepers Sara Smith (Brooklyn, NY) and Elizabeth Niehoff (Bronxville, NY) split time in goal and Smith registered her second victory of the season.

The Pioneers will host NEWMAC rival Wellesley College on Saturday at 11:30 am.
