Smith Lacrosse Defeats Elms 18-2
Northampton, MA: The Pioneers won their first game of the 2008 season with an 18-2 defeat of Elms College this afternoon in a non-conference contest. With the victory, Smith improved to 1-4 while the Blazers fell to 2-3 overall.
Smith took control of the game in the opening half, outshooting Elms 27-3 and converting 14 of those shots to take a 14-0 lead into the break. First year Caitlyn Kennedy (South Hadley, MA) tallied a game high 5 goals while Carolyn Whiting (South Orange, NJ) added four. Sara Smith (Brooklyn, NY) and Liz Niehoff (Bronxville, NY) shared goalkeeping duties with Smith picking up her first win of the year.
First year Jennifer Lough (Feeding Hills, MA) and sophomore Ashley Ziemba (Chicopee, MA) scored the goals for Elms. Junior Alicia Bobbie (Higganum, CT) went the distance in goal for the Blazers and made 13 saves.
