Lacrosse Falls to Babson, 20-10
Northampton, MA: The Pioneers opened New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC)competition today at Babson College and fell to the Beavers 20-10. Babson, ranked 7th in the country by the IWLCA, improved to 7-1 overall, 1-0 in the conference while the Pioneers dropped to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the NEWMAC.
Babson opened the game scoring four quick goals in the first 4 minutes of play, but the Pioneers outscored the home team 4-3 over the next 13 minutes to get within three goals with the score 7-4. Four different players scored for Smith with senior Sara Smyth (Brooklyn, NY) registering a goal and an assist. The Beavers offense dominated the remainder of the half as they scored 8 of the next 9 goals to take a 15-5 lead into the half.
The Pioneers put five more goals on the board during the second half but the 10 goal first half deficit proved too much for Smith to overcome. Smyth and Caitlin Kennedy (South Hadley, MA) each scored twice for Smith while senior Emly Riff (Wayzata, MN) tallied the 5th Pioneer goal of the second half.
