Field Hockey Falls at Clark, 2-1

Northampton, MA: Senior Alex Janos (Hillsborough, NJ) gave Smith a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute of play last night in Worcester, but Clark came-from-behind to take the 2-1 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory. With the win, the Cougars improved to 7-9 overall and 2-6 in the conference while Smith fell to 3-12 and 2-6 in the NEWMAC.

Smith keeper Margaret Winter (Purchase, NY) was challenged early in the game and blocked two shots by the Cougars before Janos put the Pioneers on the board to take a 1-0 lead. Clark tied the game just 1:53 later on a goal by Precious Ra'Akbar (Baltimore, MD) and the teams entered halftime at a 1-1 stalemate. The Clark attack took over in next 35 minutes outshooting Smith 6-2. Winter again made key saves in goal before Lauren Blake (Oakland, ME) hit a shot that bounced off a Smith defender into the goal for the game winner.

Winter made 8 saves in the loss for Smith while Alison Foley stopped 2 shots in Clark's victory.  The Pioneers end the regular season as the 7th seed in the NEWMAC Tournament and will travel to #2 Wellesley on Saturday for quarterfinal action.  Game time is TBA.
