Smith Field Hockey Defeats WPI in OT

Northampton, MA: The Pioneers won their last home game of the season this evening defeating New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival WPI 1-0 in overtime. With the win, Smith improved to 3-10 overall and 2-4 in conference play while WPI fell to 6-10 on the season and 1-6 in the NEWMAC.

With the game scoreless after 70 minutes of play, the Pioneers scored the game winning goal 49 seconds into the first overtime when  sophomore Rebecca Capute (Easton, MD) found senior Alex Janos (Hillsborough, NJ) who hammered it past WPI's keeper. Sophomore Margaret Winter (Purchase, NY) picked up her first win of the season in goal for Smith and made 8 saves.  Sophomore Betsy Ray (Simsbury, CT) took the loss for WPI.

The Pioneers travel to NEWMAC opponent Babson College on Saturday for a 2 pm contest.
