Smith Field Hockey Drops to Wheaton 6-0

Northampton, MA: Although the Pioneers put forth a strong defensive effort in the first half, holding Wheaton to one goal, the Lyons were able to take charge in the second half and go on to take a 6-0 victory over Smith. Smith falls to 2-6 (1-1) on the season, while Wheaton improves to 8-3 (2-0) overall.

Alex Block '10 (Saratoga, CA) put Wheaton on the board at the 25:54 mark in the first half.  Sara Dimik '08 (Cumberland, ME) had her first of three assists of the game on the goal by BlockJessica Strock '11 (Centerville, MA) tallied a goal assisted by Dimick at 26:37 in the second half.  Wheaton was able to get two more quick goals at 24:11 with Block's second goal assisted by Dimick, and at 23:33 by Alisa Ardito '09 (Bradford, CT) unassisted.  Dimick finished out the match by adding two more goals: the first unassisted at 11:34 and the second at 6:15 assisted by Ardito

Courtney Murphy '11 (Florence, MA) had 18 saves in the match for the Pioneers.  Cameron Abel '11 (Windham, NH) blocked 4 shots for the Lyons, while Andrea Bagley '10 (Foxboro, MA) had 1 save in the game.

Smith will be back in action Tuesday, October 2nd as they travel to Springfield College for a 7pm NEWMAC match-up.
