Smith Equestrians Win Three Individual Titles at Amherst Show

Northampton, MA: First year Morgan Brescia (Seekonk, MA) brought home the High Point Rider and Novice Champion titles today from the Amherst Horse Show while Elizabeth Jacobson (New Fairfield, CT) captured the third title, Intermediate Champion of the Day.

In a highly competitve event where three points separted the top four schools, the Pioneers finished tied for third with Becker College with 33 points.  Mount Holyoke won the show with 36 points followed by UMass with 35.

Fifteen riders competed today for Smith and gathered 15 ribbons in the top four.  Brescia won first place ribbons in both the novice flat and novice fences classes while Marguerite Davenport (Mill Valley, CA) and Jacobson each brought home a blue in intermediate flat.  Red ribbons were won by Christy Stine (East Dover, VT) in intermediate fences, Jill Medinger (Newtown, CT) in open flat and Sarah Maxner (Norwich, VT) in novice fences.  Third place ribbons were won by Kimberly Meskimen (Medina, MN) in open fences, Abigail Cooper (Chalfont, PA) in open flat while Anya Bahros (Norwell, MA), Grace Livingston (Lyndhurst, OH) and Susanna Haas (South Acworth, NH) each placed in walk, trot, canter.  Fourth place ribbons were won by Jacobson in intermediate fences, Kelly Hulyk (Milford, MA) in walk, trot and Martha MaloneyHuss (Wilmington, DE) and Maxner in novice flat.

Today's show completes the fall equestrian schedule.
