Equestrians Take Fifth at Mount Holyoke Show
Northampton, MA: The Smith equestrian team placed fifth today out of eleven schools at the Mount Holyoke Show. The University of Massachusetts finished first with 38 points followed by Becker with 30, Hampshire with 28, host Mount Holyoke with 17 and Smith, 16.
Twenty-three riders competed today and brought home 23 ribbons in the top six. Sophomore Marguerite Davenport (Mill Valley, CA) finished first in novice flat and qualfied for Regionals in that event. Charlotte Ballantine (Alstead, NH) also brought home a blue ribbon in walk, trot, canter. First year Morgan Brescia (Seekonk, MA) won a red ribbon in novice fences while Kimberly Meskimen (Medina, MN), Susanna Haas (S. Acworth, NH) and Sarah Maxner (Norwich, VT) each finished in third place in their events. Fourth place ribbons were won by Martha MaloneyHuss (Wilmington, DE), Brescia, Kelly Hulyk (Milford, MA), Steffi Gavin (East Haddam, CT), Anya Bahros (Norwell, MA) and Grace Livingston (Lyndhurst, OH).
The Smith equestrians will compete in their last show of the fall on November 10 when they travel to Amherst College.
