Smith Cross-Country Wins Harrier Classic

Northampton, MA: Sophomore Anna Cressotti (Southampton, MA)was the first collegiate runner to cross the finish line today at the Harrier Classic held at Franklin Park in Boston. Her third place finish helped the Pioneers win the nine team event with 81 points.

Bentley finished second with 149; Southern Maine was third with 175 points followed by Merrimack (190), Salve Regina (210), New York Institute of Technology (235), Salem State (239), Castleton (267) and UMass-Boston with 371.

The Pioneers were led by Cressotti who ran the 5K course in 18:43 and finished third overall; Nora Youngs (Penacook, NH) who was eleventh (19:43), Alison Cloutier (East Hampton, CT) who placed fourteenth in a time of 19:58, Stephanie Strenta (Hanover, NH) who ran a 20:39 and placed 25th and Sari Field (Nutley, NJ) who finished 37th in 21:18.

The Pioneers will race again on Saturday, October 6 when they compete in the Open New England Championships in Boston.
