MIT Women and Men Win Smith Cross-Country Invitational

Northampton, MA: MIT swept the women's and men's races today at the Smith College Cross-Country Invitational and had the individual race winners. First year Nicole Bucala won the women's 5K race in 19:46.78 while junior Jake Ruzevick (Coronado, CA)took first in the men's 8K race in 26:58.07.

The Pioneers of Smith finished fifth of twelve teams with 127 points. Scoring for the Pioneers were junior Nora Youngs (Penacook, NH) in 5th place (20:18.89), senior Alison Cloutier (East Hampton, CT) in 21st (21:35.01), first year Jackie Tillmann ( East Falmouth, MA) in 30th (21:55.09), sophomore Meredith Jones (Ridgewood, NJ) 35th (22:04.59) and first year Stephanie Strenta (Hanover, NH) 36th (22.06.52).

Wellesley College finished second in the women's team results with 80 points followed by Connecticut College (94), RPI (107), Smith (127), Coast Guard (145), Mount Holyoke (212), Clark (230), WPI (247), Babson (272), Lesley (325) and Lasell (338).

The Bears of Coast Guard finished second in the men's race with 35 points followed by WPI (89), RPI (94), UMass-Dartmouth (149), Clark (184), Lasell (220) and Babson (221).

The Pioneers of Smith will be in action again when they race in the Harrier Classic in Boston on September 22 at 11 a.m.
