Crew Races Against Wellesley & Simmons
Northampton, MA: With the cancellation of the Seven Sisters Championship due to high water in Philadelphia, the Smith, Simmons and Wellesley crews traveled to Cambridge this morning and raced a 2.5 mile course to end the fall season of racing.
The Pioneers varsity eight comprised of coxswain Missy Wong (Portsmouth, OH) and Emily Taylor (North Rose, NY), Bri Tomboulian (East Lansing, MI), Chantel Pheiffer (Baltic, CT), Eliza van Lennep (Rindge, NH), Molly Johnson (Roslindale, MA), Lauren Carpenter (East Hartford, CT), Julie Olson (Fairbanks, AK) and Caitlin Miller (Medina, NY) raced to first place in a time of 15:27.0 with Simmons (15:40.7) taking second and Wellesley (16:20.8) third.
The second race was a combination of second and third varsity eights with the Smith A boat taking first (16:21.3), Wellesley A second (16:23.9), Wellesley B third (16:59.6), Simmons A fourth (17:08.5) and Smith B crew fifth (17:09.0).
The "A" and "B" novice crews also competed in the same race with Simmons A (17:04.1) rowing to first place followed by Wellesley A (17:08.2), Smith A (17:35.0), Wellesley B (18:28.8), Smith B (19:10.6) and Simmons B (19:15.0).
