Smith Crew Rows to 8th at Head of the Charles

Northampton, MA: Smith Crew finished 8th out of 44 boats in the Women's Collegiate Eight at the Head of the Charles Regatta Sunday afternoon.

With over 7,500 competitors from over 55 countries Head of the Charles is the largest two day regatta in the world.

With a time of 18:13.28, coxswain Michelle Wong '08 (Portsmouth, OH), stroke Emily Taylor '08 (North Rose, NY), seat 7 Bri Tomboulian '08 (East Lansing, MI), seat 6 Chantel Pheiffer '09 (Baltic, CT), seat 5 Eliza van Lennep '09 (Rindge, NH), seat 4 Molly Johnson '11 (Roslindale, MA), seat 3 Lauren Carpenter '08 (East Hartford, CT), seat 2 Julie Olson '10 (Fairbanks, AK), and seat 1 Caitlin Miller '10 (Medina, NY), finished less than a minute behind first place boat Trinity College (17:20.077).  Smith was the fourth division 3 boat to finish only trailing behind 1st place Trinity, 3rd place Williams, and 5th place Bates. 

Smith will be back in action  Sunday, October 28th at Bryn Mawr to compete for the Seven Sisters Title.  The team will be looking to take first as they finished ahead of all Seven Sisters schools at the Head of the Charles.
