Crew Races at New England Rowing Championships

Northampton, MA: The Smith crew enjoyed a good day of racing in rainy/misty conditions today at the New England Rowing Championships held on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Both of Smith's novice eights ended up in the same heat with the "A" boat taking third (7:26.085) and the "B" boat sixth (8:27.162).  The A boat (Caitlin Eisenberg, Amy Shamania, Katharine von Herrmann, Chelsea Andrews, Alexandra Hutto, Hillary Knight Mitchell, MacKenzie Clark, Elaine Machietto and Kelsea Thornton) qualified for the grand final and raced to sixth place in a time of 7:30.687 with just .044 separating the 4th, 5th, and 6th places. The "B" boat finished 6th in the petite final (8:21.752).  In the second varsity eight race, the Pioneers (Kim Pucher, Rowan van Ness, Dana Lindsay, Anna Frej, Lauren Carpenter, Gabriele Kubik, Emilie Lerner, Emily Hart and Maria Santos) were second in their heat (7:07.992) and finished fourth in the grand final in a time of 7:12.654 behind Williams, Trinity and Holy Cross. The varsity eight (Missy Wong, Caitlin Miller, Kathryn Johnson, Margaret Woodman-russell, Bri Tomboulian, Emily Taylor, Eliza van Lennep, Eliza Bryant and Chantel Pheiffer) were third in their heat, placed fourth in the petite final and finished 10th overall. The team knocked a second off their time in the final and crossed the finish line in 7:14.125.  Trinity won the race followed by Williams, Bates, UNH, Holy Cross, Coast Guard, Tufts, Wesleyan, Mount Holyoke, Smith, UVM, Wellesley and Colby.
