Smith Crews Perform Well in Worcester

Northampton, MA: Coming off a week of limited practice time on the water, the Smith crews performed well today against Wesleyan, Colby, WPI, Williams, and Holy Cross in Worcester with the varsity 8 and second varsity 8 winning its races.

The varsity eight, comprised of coxswain Dani Covatta (Accomac, VA), Chantel Pheiffer (Baltic, CT), Briana Tomboulian (East Lansing, MI), Emily Taylor (North Rose, NY), Eliza Van Lennep (Rindge, NH), Kathryn Johnson (Roslindale, MA), Gabriela Kubik (White Bear Lake, MN), Emily Hart (Kamuela, HI) and Caitlin Miller (Medina, NY) took the race in 7:06. 3 followed by Wesleyan (7:10.6), Colby (7:16.6) and WPI (7:24.6).

The second varsity 8, coxswain Kim Pucher (Houston, TX), Rowan van Ness (Mukilteo, WA), Dana Lindsay (Millbrook, NY), Anna Frej (Marblehead, MA), Lauren Carpenter (East Hartford, CT), Eliza Bryant (East Greenwich, RI), Emilie Lerner (Ann Arbor, MI), Margaret Woodman-Russell (Ipswich, MA) and Maria-Fatima Santos (Suffield, CT) crossed the finish line five seconds (7:17.2) in front of Colby (7:22.8).

The third varsity eight race was won by Williams in 7:13 followed by Holy Cross 7:17.4, Smith 7:33.3 and Colby 8:08.1. Members of that eight were Caitlin Eisenberg (Acton, MA), coxswain; Christina Dragon (Mesilla Park, NM), Loni Lyttle (Gold River, CA), Catherine Davie (Little Rock, AR), Chelsea Andrews (Mattituck, NY), Hillary Knight-Mitchell (Cumberland, ME), Ali Harris (Mequon, WI), Amy Shmania (Chapel Hill, NC) and Katherine von Herrmann (Piedmont, CA). 

The Pioneers will race again next weekend against Holy Cross, Trinity, Mount Holyoke and Simmons.
