Crew Races Against Holy Cross & Radcliffe

Northampton, MA: The Smith crews opened their spring season today on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester. On cold water and with a tail wind, the Pioneers raced against crews from Holy Cross and Radcliffe.

Holy Cross won the third varsity eight race in 7:24.70 followed by Smith's (Kim Pucher (Houston, TX), Margaret Woodman-Russell (Ipswich, MA), Maria-Fatima Santos (Suffield, CT), Catharine Davie (Little Rock, AR), Loni Lyttle (Gold River, CA), Ali Harris (Mequon, WI), Chelsea Andrews (Mattituck, NY), Sara Sirois (Tully, NY) and Nora Leiterman (Hamden, CT) in 7:44.74. Radcliffe crossed the finish line first in the novice 8 race (7:33.0), followed by Holy Cross (7:51.52) and Smith (8:09.0). Rowing for the Pioneers in that boat were Caitlin Eisenberg (Acton, MA), Amy Shmania (Chapel Hill, NC), Katharine von Herrmann (Piedmont, CA), Elaine Machietto (Southwick, MA), Colleen Clark (Chapel Hill, NC), Hillary Knight-Mitchell (Cumberland, ME), Liza Aberbach (Norwich, CT), Rosa Town (Statesboro, GA), and Denae Barton (Thetford Center, VT).  Smith's second varsity eight, Dani Covatta (Accomac, VA), Dana Lindsay (Millbrook, NY), Rowan Van Ness (Mukiteo, WA), Emilie Lerner (Ann Arbor, MI), Anna Frej (Marblehead, MA), Gabrielle Kubik (White Bear Lake, MN), MacKenzie Clark (Rochester, MN), Emily Hart (Kamuela, HI) and Christina Dragon (Mesilla Park, NM) took third in 7:24.02 behind Radcliffe (7:03.6) and Holy Cross (7:16.04). The varsity 8, Missy Wong (Portsmouth, OH), Emily Taylor (North Rose, NY), Bri Tomboulian (East Lansing,MI), Chantel Pheiffer (Baltic, CT), Eliza van Lennep (Rindge, NH), Eliza Bryant (East Greenwich, RI), Lauren Carpenter (East Hartford, CT), Kathryn Johnson (Roslindale, MA) and Caitlin Miller (Medina, NY) also finished third (7:13.05) behind Radcliff (6:46.6) and Holy Cross (6:57.05).

The Pioneers will race again next Saturday against WPI, Wesleyan and Colby in Worcester.
