Smith Basketball Loses to Middlebury 83-51
Northampton, MA: The Pioneers fell to Middlebury by a lopsided score of 83-51. The loss dropped Smith's record to 2-5; meanwhile the Panthers of Middlebury now stand at 6-1 on the season.
Middlebury jumped ahead of the Pioneers early, taking an 11-2 lead with the help of three three pointers from Ashley Barron (Location). Smith fought hard to cut the deficit but was down 37-15 going into half time. The Panthers continued to add to their lead as they shot .556 from the floor in the second half. Barron finished the game with a game high 14 points.
Offensively, Smith was led by Laura Miller (Minneapolis, MN) who had 11 points on 5-10 shooting. Sophomore Megan Kiefer (Oak Park, IL) chipped in 9 points. Lisa Marie Vuono (Lyndhurst, NJ) led the team in rebounds with 5.
The Pioneers return to action Tuesday, December 11 as they travel to Amherst for a 7 p.m tip off.
