Nguyen & Weiss Selected to NCAA Development Conference

Northampton, MA: Sophomores Bethany Weiss (Windham, NH) and Lindsey Nguyen (Brockton, MA) have been selected to participate in the 2008 NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference to be held the end of May at Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Weiss, a biology & anthropology major who transferred from George Washington University this past September, led our volleyball team in blocks with 58 and was second in kills averaging 2.02 per game. Nguyen completed her second season on the field hockey team and is an engineering major. Both women were nominated by their respective coaches for their leadership skills and were selected by Athletic Director Lynn Oberbillig to represent Smith College.

The annual NCAA National Student-Athlete Leadership Development Conference provides NCAA student-athletes with a forum to openly discuss issues that may affect them on their campuses and in their communities, while also providing them with the opportunity to enhance their leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills.  The NCAA National Leadership Conference also promotes better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities.  The five-day conference  consists of daily exercises and activities to help the student-athletes develop as individuals and as contributing members to a group.  The conference takes place annually in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
