Tennis Falls to Wellesley and Mount Holyoke in First Day of Seven Sisters Championship

Poughkeepsie, NY: The Pioneers dropped two matches yesterday to Wellesley (0-5) and Mount Holyoke (2-3) in first day action of the 2006 Seven Sisters Tennis Championship.
Wellesley dominated play in the opening match against the Pioneers and did not concede a single set in the two doubles and three singles matches. The Smith/Mount Holyoke match began outside but the teams were forced to complete play inside due to weather. Seiko Fujii (Aichi, JAPAN) at number three singles and MyDzung Chu (Springfield, MA) along with Jacqueline Sager (Marion, MA) at second doubles secured victories for the Pioneers. With the teams tied up at two apiece, the Lyons' Ashley Fallon defeated Smith's Kate Johnson (Auburn, KS) in a hard fought match 7-6 (4), 6-4 to give Mount Holyoke the 3-2 win.
Competition resumes today with the Pioneers playing Vassar and Bryn Mawr.
