Smith Tennis Swept by Brandeis 9-0

Waltham, MA: Smith traveled to non-conference opponent Brandeis University yesterday enduring harsh weather conditions and a change in venue, finally succumbing to the Judges 9-0. With blowing winds and sun glare on the outdoor courts, Smith lost six straight singles matches before moving indoors for doubles competition, where Smith lost all three matches.

Number 2 singles Kate Johnson (Auburn, KA) and number four Seiko Fujii (Aichi, JAPAN) came close to defeating their respective opponents with Johnson falling 6-3, 6-4 to Colleen Donnelly and Fujii finally giving in 6-3, 7-6(3) to Gabrielle Helfgott.

With the loss, Smith falls to 2-10 overall. The team will travel to Las Vegas, NV for their next match on March 21 at the Las Vegas Club before returning home to host Bowdoin/Bates on Saturday, March 25 at 10 am and 3 pm.
