Finishes at UMass Dartmouth Invitational
Dartmouth, MA: Smith Track & Field took home 8 individual first place finishes this afternoon at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. In a field of 8 teams, Smith was in second place as the competition neared its end. Official meet results will be available on www.coolrunning.com. First year Nora Youngs (Penacook, NH) missed the national qualifying score for the Steeplechase by 3 seconds, but still finished in the top spot with a time of 11.25.94, placing her second on the all-time best list for Smith in the Steeplechase. Youngs has now qualified for ECACs, New England III’s and Open New Englands in this event. With a vault of 9 ft. senior Sue Jensen (Saxtons River, VT) earned the top finish n the Pole Vault. Senior Katie Walters-Krohn (Minneapolis, MN) swept the Hammer, Shot Put and Discuss this afternoon with throws of 138.11 ft, 38.10.5 ft, and 124 ft respectively and has qualified for ECAC’s and the New England III championships in all three events. First year Caitlin Ritchie (Meriden, CT) threw the javelin 106.3 ft to capture first place while junior McKane Sharff (Arlington, MA) took home two first place times in both the 100m and 200m, finishing in 12.86 seconds and 27.10 seconds respectively. Other finishers for the Pioneers include a 3rd place finish from Alison Cloutier (East Hampton, CT) in the 5000m (19.05.90) followed by Maria Gonchoroff (Syracuse, NY) in 7th (21.10.76). Celeste Booth (Santa Fe, NM) took 4th in the 400m (66.6) followed by teammate Caitlin Ritchie in 5th (67.22). Ritchie also placed 6th in the 200m (28.47). Patti Rebull (Union City, NJ) placed 5th in the 100m hurdles (17.80) and 13th in the 200m (31.23). Tessa Taylor (Seattle, WA) and Sue Jensen placed 15th and 16th in the 200m respectively with times of 31.88 and 32.16. The team will compete again next weekend on Saturday, April 22 at the Dartmouth Invitational with the NEWMAC Championships to follow the weekend of April 29th at MIT. |
